Steel production
Acciaieria di Rubiera is a leading specialized producer of high quality steel, using scrap iron smelted in an electric furnace. This activity has a strong environmental orientation, since the scrap iron would otherwise be left unused and requiring disposal.
The steelworks produces:
- ingots for rolling and forging, round, square and polygonal bars from 1 to 120 tons
- electro-slag remelted ingots up to 100 tons, vacuum arc remelted ingots up to 30 tons
- continuous casting billets, square and round bars with cross sections of 100, 120, 145, 160 and 180 mm
Acciaieria di Rubiera has the following plant: DC arc furnace, n. 4 refining furnace, three vacuum treatment furnaces, three line continuous casting, 2 electro-slag remelting plants, 1 vacuum arc remelting plant.
The process is divided into: stocking scrap iron, smelting and correction with alloys, casting refinement, finishing the product, controlled cooling of ingots and billets, chemical, physical and mechanical testing of samples and test pieces, stocking finished product.
The refining furnaces, vacuum treatment, continuous casting of ingot and billets are followed by controlled cooling and/or thermal treatments before final testing and stocking materials for shipping.
At the request of our costumers, our ingots are used as electrodes to produce remelted ingots.
The plant is equipped for full chemical analysis, gas analysis (H-N-O), mechanical testing, structural micrography and inclusion detection.
